    In response to proposed regulatory reforms that impact the ability of un-registered health professionals such as naturopaths, western herbalists and nutritionists to receive comprehensive information about the substances they prescribe for their patients, the Complementary Healthcare Council of Australia (CHC) has recommended the Department of Health supports the independent registration system, the Australian Register of Naturopaths and Herbalists (ARONAH).

    Medical Officer’s preventive health plan for children, which includes a call for their National
    Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence to examine the cost-effectiveness of offering
    vitamins A, C and D to all children under five.

    A meta-analysis finding that vitamin D supplements have no beneficial effect on bone density has drawn intense criticism from experts who say the study has “serious limitations” and its conclusions could have “dire consequences” for public health for suggesting healthy adults don’t need to take vitamin D supplements.

    The Complementary Healthcare Council of Australia (CHC) commends the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for drafting resources that encourage health professionals to communicate openly with patients about their use of complementary medicines. However, the CHC is disappointed that aspects of the resources provide little support for health professionals to guide patients with accurate and relevant information.
